Bhubaneswar, Sept. 9 (UDN): Plus 2 students in Odisha will have two additional career-oriented options from the 2026-27 academic session, with the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) approving vocational courses in Healthcare and Apparels.

The two courses have been approved for Class XI and XII students under the Integrated Vocational Stream, expanding the range of job-focused skills available alongside higher secondary education.
Healthcare Course to Train General Duty Assistants
Under the Healthcare course, students will be trained for the job role of General Duty Assistant Trainee.
The programme is intended to provide students with practical exposure to basic healthcare-related skills and prepare them for entry-level opportunities in the healthcare sector after completing their higher secondary education.
Apparels Course to Focus on Fashion Design
The newly introduced Apparels course will prepare students for the role of an Assistant Fashion Designer.
The course is expected to introduce students to skills related to apparel and fashion design, offering an alternative pathway for those interested in the growing fashion and garment industry.
NCERT-Linked Curriculum to Be Adopted
The decision was taken at a recent meeting of the CHSE Academic Committee following a proposal from the Odisha School Education Programme Authority.
The committee has approved the use of the standard syllabus, curriculum and learning resources developed by the Pandit Sunderlal Sharma Central Institute of Vocational Education (PSSCIVE), Bhopal, under NCERT.
CHSE has also been directed to make the approved syllabus and study materials available through its official website for the benefit of students and teachers.
Greater Flexibility for Vocational Students
The introduction of the two courses comes amid efforts to make vocational education more flexible and employment-oriented in Odisha.
Earlier, CHSE had expanded subject-choice flexibility for vocational students, allowing them to select Basic Foundation Course subjects without being confined to conventional streams such as Science, Commerce or Humanities.
With Healthcare and Apparels now added to the vocational curriculum, students will have more opportunities to combine higher secondary education with practical skills aimed at improving their employability and preparing them for further professional training.
