Farmers to Receive Timely Fertilizer Supply During Kharif 2026–27 as Government Implements Comprehensive Measures to Prevent Shortages

Bhubaneswar,  Sept 11 [UDN}:During the ongoing Kharif 2026–27 season, the State Government has put in place extensive arrangements to ensure the adequate, timely and hassle-free availability of fertilizers to farmers across Odisha.

To prevent shortages and ensure that farmers receive fertilizers at the prescribed prices, the government has adopted a strict monitoring mechanism across the state. Special attention is being given to preventing the black marketing, hoarding, overpricing and illegal transportation of fertilizers.

Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against black marketing and other illegal practices in the fertilizer distribution system. Authorities have been directed to take stringent action against dealers and traders found violating government regulations or engaging in irregularities.

As part of the enforcement drive, inspections and raids have been conducted at fertilizer shops across the state. A total of 11,684 fertilizer shops have been raided following allegations of black marketing, irregularities and other violations.

Following these inspections, 2,774 persons have been issued show-cause notices, seeking explanations regarding alleged violations and irregularities in the sale and distribution of fertilizers.

Furthermore, strict action has been taken against dealers found to be involved in irregular practices. The sale of fertilizers by 321 dealers has been temporarily stopped, while the licenses of 170 dealers have been suspended.

In addition, the licenses of 96 fertilizer dealers have been cancelled for serious violations.

The government has reiterated that such enforcement measures are aimed at ensuring that fertilizers meant for farmers reach them through the proper distribution system and are not diverted for illegal trade or sold at inflated prices.

The stringent action is expected to strengthen transparency and accountability in the fertilizer supply chain and help ensure that farmers receive the required fertilizers smoothly during the ongoing Kharif season.

Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo has made it clear that the government will continue to take firm action against anyone involved in fertilizer black marketing, illegal transportation, hoarding, overpricing or other forms of malpractice, with the objective of protecting farmers’ interests and ensuring uninterrupted agricultural operations.
