Bhubaneswar:Sept 11 [UDN}: Vehicle owners in Odisha may now face greater scrutiny if their vehicles are found to be operating without a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) or valid motor vehicle insurance. The authorities are strengthening the use of the e-Detection system to automatically identify vehicles that fail to comply with mandatory road and vehicle safety requirements.
Under the system, cameras and digital monitoring mechanisms installed at strategic locations will help detect vehicles whose PUCC or insurance documents have expired or are unavailable. Once a vehicle is identified as violating the prescribed rules, the details can be electronically verified through the vehicle registration database.
Following detection, an e-Challan may be generated against the vehicle owner, with the notice being sent to the registered address of the vehicle. This means that vehicle owners may receive traffic violation notices at their homes even if they are not stopped by traffic police on the road.
The initiative is aimed at encouraging vehicle owners to keep their mandatory documents updated and ensuring better compliance with traffic and motor vehicle regulations. Authorities are also seeking to make enforcement more technology-driven, reduce dependence on physical checking and improve road safety.
Vehicle owners have therefore been advised to regularly check the validity of their PUCC, insurance and other essential vehicle documents. Driving without the required documents can result in penalties and the issuance of an electronic challan through the enforcement system.
