Bhubaneswar, Sept 15 [UDN}: In yet another major infrastructure boost for Odisha, the Central Government has granted approval for the four-laning of the Jharsuguda–Kharagpur road corridor, paving the way for significant improvements in connectivity, transportation and economic activity across the region.
The approval is being viewed as an important gift from the Centre to Odisha, as the proposed four-lane development is expected to strengthen road connectivity between western Odisha and Kharagpur in West Bengal. The upgraded corridor will help facilitate smoother and faster movement of passengers and freight, reduce travel time and improve the overall efficiency of road transportation.
The project is also expected to provide a major push to industrial development, trade, logistics and commercial activities along the corridor. With Jharsuguda emerging as an important industrial and transportation hub, improved four-lane connectivity towards Kharagpur is likely to benefit industries, businesses, transport operators and local communities.
The widening of the existing road infrastructure is expected to enhance road safety and ease traffic congestion while creating better connectivity with major industrial, commercial and economic centres. The project could further strengthen Odisha’s position as a key gateway for the movement of goods between eastern and western parts of the country.
The Centre’s approval has therefore generated considerable expectations that the Jharsuguda–Kharagpur four-laning project will accelerate infrastructure development and contribute significantly to Odisha’s economic growth, regional connectivity and employment opportunities in the coming years.
