Mayurbhanj, Sept. 16: A pigeon carrying a metal ring inscribed with markings that appear to include a reference to Bangladesh has triggered curiosity among residents of Kashipada village in Mayurbhanj district.
The bird was reportedly spotted near the residence of Harish Chandra Puhan on Tuesday afternoon, with a blue-coloured metal ring attached to one of its legs.
Ring bears coded markings
According to local sources, the ring carries the inscriptions “BAN-2024” and “701831”.
The unusual markings prompted several villagers to gather around the bird after news of its discovery spread through the locality.
Harish Chandra Puhan’s son, Srikash Puhan, reportedly rescued the pigeon and informed Baisinga police before handing the bird over to the police station.
Police examine markings
Following the information, Betanati SDPO Minati Biswal and Baisinga police station officer Babashankar Saraf reportedly examined the pigeon and the markings on the metal ring.
However, authorities have not yet established the bird’s actual origin or confirmed the significance of the inscriptions.
Police are examining how the pigeon reached the area, what the markings “BAN-2024” and “701831” represent, and the circumstances under which the ring was attached to the bird’s leg.
The pigeon has been kept under police custody as the investigation continues. Officials are expected to ascertain whether the markings have any significance or whether they are simply identification codes associated with the bird.
