JEYPORE,Sept 17 [UDN}:: A voluntary blood donation camp was organised jointly by the Government Polytechnic College at Randapalli in Jeypore, Koraput district, and the Federation of Blood Donor Organisations of Odisha (FBDOO) at the college auditorium. A total of 51 units of blood were collected during the camp.
College Principal Krushna Chandra Rout inaugurated the camp as the chief guest and encouraged students and staff to participate in voluntary blood donation.
A team from the District Headquarters Hospital Blood Bank, led by Bulu Goud, collected the 51 units of blood. College representatives Firoz Kumar Behera and P. Jagadish Acharya, along with FBDOO State President Dr. Naresh Chandra Sahu, Polytechnic representative Chandrasekhar Jena and volunteers including Kumar Singh, K. Anand Sarab, Shubham Das, S. Indravati Reddy and Jyotirmayee Rath helped organise and manage the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Naresh Chandra Sahu highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation, particularly during emergencies caused by road accidents. He said shortages of blood during critical situations can result in avoidable loss of life.
He further said donated blood is also essential for patients suffering from sickle-cell disease and thalassemia, as well as for pregnant women and cancer patients who may require blood transfusions during treatment.
A significant number of Polytechnic students donated blood for the first time, reflecting growing awareness among young people about the importance of voluntary blood donation and community service.
The FBDOO provided the necessary support for conducting the camp. At the conclusion of the programme, certificates of appreciation were presented to the blood donors in recognition of their contribution.
The organisers said such initiatives can help strengthen the availability of blood for patients in need and encourage more young people to become regular voluntary blood donors.
