Bhubaneswar, Sept. 17 (UDN): Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Thursday said the state government remains prepared throughout the year to respond to cyclones and other natural calamities, amid weather predictions being circulated by some private agencies.

Pujari said private organisations may conduct their own assessments, but the government relies on established forecasting and monitoring mechanisms before taking decisions related to disaster management.
“Whatever natural disaster comes, we will be able to tackle it. We are prepared 365 days,” the Minister said.
Doppler radar network being expanded
The Minister said Odisha is strengthening its weather surveillance infrastructure to improve early warnings and enable more accurate tracking of severe weather systems.
A Doppler weather radar has already been installed at Sambalpur, while additional advanced radars are planned at Bhubaneswar, Balasore and Gopalpur by December this year, he said.
The expanded radar network is expected to provide more detailed information on the movement and intensity of cyclones and other weather-related hazards, helping authorities plan timely responses.
Data from neighbouring states to aid warnings
Pujari also said the state is focusing on gathering weather-related information from neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, as well as adjoining areas.
According to the Minister, integrating information from surrounding regions will help Odisha improve situational awareness and issue advance alerts, allowing district administrations to take preventive measures ahead of potential disasters.
Odisha, which frequently faces cyclones, floods and other weather-related emergencies, has been strengthening its disaster preparedness and early-warning systems as part of its broader risk-reduction strategy.
