Electoral Roll Verification Drive Held in Nabarangpur to Check Voter Details and Records

Nabarangpur:Sept 18 [UDN}: To assess the progress and quality of work related to the electoral roll in Nabarangpur district, Election Roll Observer and Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the General Enterprises Department, Mohammad Sadiq Alam, IAS, visited Nabarangpur on Tuesday.

A review meeting was held at the Ashok Mehta Conference Hall in the Collectorate in the presence of Nabarangpur Collector-cum-District Election Officer Dr. Maheswar Swain.

During the meeting, the status of applications received during the claims and objections period was reviewed. Officials also examined case records related to super-checking and assessed the processing of applications submitted through Form 6, Form 7 and Form 8 for inclusion of names, deletion of names and correction of details in the electoral roll. Records relating to hearings and the disposal of cases were also scrutinised.

Alam also interacted with representatives of various political parties and sought their views and suggestions on the preparation, revision and updating of the electoral roll. He stressed the importance of cooperation among political parties and all stakeholders to ensure that the voter list remains error-free, accurate, transparent and impartial.

The Election Roll Observer subsequently interacted with newly registered voters to understand their experiences with the voter registration process. He enquired about the facilities they received and the difficulties, if any, they faced while registering their names.

He urged new voters to verify whether their names and details have been correctly entered in the electoral roll and encouraged them to remain aware of the electoral process and actively participate in the democratic process.

A separate review meeting was later held with all Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) of the district. Detailed discussions were held on the processing of Forms 6, 7 and 8, proper maintenance of case registers relating to hearings, and timely disposal of applications in accordance with prescribed rules.

Alam directed officials to ensure proper verification of all required documents and records in each case, strict adherence to the prescribed hearing procedure and systematic preservation of records relating to disposal of cases.

He further emphasised that electoral roll preparation and revision must be carried out according to the prescribed rules, standards and timelines, while maintaining transparency, impartiality, accuracy and accountability throughout the process.

Political party representatives present at the meeting included Pradip Kumar Sahu of the Indian National Congress, Gajanikar Shashmal and Pramod Rath of the Biju Janata Dal, and Saroj Behera of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Among the officials present were Additional District Magistrate (General) Dr. Pramod Kumar Pushti, Additional District Magistrate (Revenue) Biswajit Barman, Chief Development Officer-cum-Executive Officer Biranchi Narayan Darwan, Sub-Collector Prakash Kumar Mishra, Deputy Collector (Election) Chinmay Kumar Sahu and Sub-Divisional Information and Public Relations Officer Satya Narayan Pradhan, along with all EROs, AEROs and representatives of various political parties in the district.
