Sambalpur: Sept 19 [UDN}:Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has presented a major development package to the people of Sambalpur on the occasion of Nuakhai, unveiling and laying the foundation stones for a series of development projects with a combined value of around ₹960 crore.
The projects cover several important sectors and are aimed at strengthening infrastructure, improving public services and accelerating development in Sambalpur and its surrounding areas. The Chief Minister’s announcements during the Nuakhai celebrations are being viewed as a significant development push for the region, with multiple projects expected to contribute to better connectivity, civic infrastructure and other essential services.
A major highlight of the Chief Minister’s Sambalpur visit was the inauguration of the country’s 51st Doppler Weather Radar. The installation of the advanced weather-monitoring system is expected to strengthen the capacity to track and monitor weather conditions over western Odisha and adjoining regions.
The Doppler Weather Radar will provide more detailed and timely information about weather systems, including rainfall patterns, thunderstorms and other severe weather events. Such enhanced monitoring is expected to support more effective weather forecasting and disaster preparedness, particularly during the monsoon season when heavy rainfall and extreme weather conditions can affect different parts of Odisha.
The Sambalpur radar is also significant in strengthening Odisha’s overall weather-monitoring network. With improved observation and forecasting capabilities, the system can assist authorities in taking timely precautionary measures during adverse weather situations and help provide more accurate information to communities, farmers and other stakeholders.
During the programme, the Chief Minister highlighted the state government’s commitment to the overall development of Sambalpur and western Odisha. The projects announced and inaugurated as part of the Nuakhai celebrations are intended to address long-standing infrastructure and development requirements while creating better facilities for the people.
The ₹960-crore development package, together with the commissioning of the 51st Doppler Weather Radar, therefore marks an important occasion for Sambalpur. The initiatives combine large-scale infrastructure development with technological strengthening of the region’s weather-monitoring and disaster-management capabilities.
The announcement also carries special significance as it was made during Nuakhai, one of the most important agricultural and cultural festivals of western Odisha. By unveiling the projects during the festival, the government sought to associate the celebrations with a major development programme for the people of Sambalpur.
With the new projects and the advanced weather radar facility, Sambalpur is set to receive strengthened infrastructure as well as improved access to scientific weather information, marking a significant development push for the region.
