Nabarangpur, Sept 19 [UDN}:The proposed establishment of new medical colleges in Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur and Nabarangpur districts of Odisha has reportedly hit a roadblock due to unresolved land-related issues. The projects, which are aimed at strengthening medical education and healthcare infrastructure in these districts, have not been able to move forward as planned because suitable land has not yet been finalised or made available for construction.
The proposed medical colleges are expected to play an important role in expanding access to higher medical education as well as improving healthcare facilities for people in the respective districts and neighbouring areas. However, the delay in resolving land-related matters has emerged as a major challenge for the implementation of the projects.
Officials are required to identify appropriate land parcels and complete the necessary procedures before construction and other subsequent activities can begin. Until the land issue is settled, the proposed institutions are likely to remain at the planning stage, delaying the development of the associated medical infrastructure.
The projects are being viewed as significant from the perspective of reducing the pressure on existing medical colleges and hospitals while creating additional opportunities for medical education, specialised treatment and healthcare services within the districts. Once established, the medical colleges could also contribute to the availability of doctors and other healthcare professionals in the region.
The continued delay has therefore raised concerns over the timely execution of the projects. A resolution of the land-related hurdles and completion of the required administrative procedures would be crucial for taking the proposed medical colleges forward and ensuring that the planned healthcare infrastructure becomes operational at the earliest possible stage.
