Indravati, Sept 19 [UDN}: In a significant organisational development in the Congress party, senior woman leader P. Nagarunam and young leader Akhil Bhatra from Tentulikhunti block of Nabarangpur district have been appointed as Secretaries of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC).
The appointment is being viewed as an important responsibility for the two leaders, who have been associated with the Congress organisation for several years and have experience in working at different levels of the party.
P. Nagarunam, a senior Congress woman leader from the Tentulikhunti area, had earlier served as a member of the Pradesh Congress Committee. She also held the responsibility of District Mahila Congress President for nearly 20 years, during which she remained actively involved in strengthening the party organisation and mobilising women workers at the grassroots level.
Similarly, Akhil Bhatra is a young Congress leader who has also held several organisational responsibilities. He had previously served as a member of the Pradesh Congress Committee, President of the Nabarangpur District Congress Tribal Cell, and President of the District Youth Congress. His experience in youth and tribal organisational activities is expected to help the party expand its reach among young people and tribal communities.
The two leaders have been entrusted with the new responsibilities by Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee president Bhakta Charan Das. Following their appointment, both Nagarunam and Akhil expressed their commitment to discharging the responsibilities entrusted to them sincerely and working towards strengthening the Congress organisation from the grassroots level.
They said they would focus on taking the party’s programmes and policies to the people and strengthening the organisational structure at the village and grassroots levels.
The reshuffle and appointments are also expected to provide greater representation to leaders from Nabarangpur district in the state-level Congress organisation.
Meanwhile, former minister Parama Pujari, former MLA Bhujabal Majhi, and former Nabarangpur District Congress Committee president Manoranjan Tripathy (Muna Tripathy) have also reportedly found places in the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee. Their inclusion is expected to further strengthen the party’s organisational presence in the tribal-dominated southern Odisha region.
The latest appointments have generated interest among Congress workers in Nabarangpur district, with party leaders and supporters expressing hope that the newly appointed office-bearers will play an effective role in revitalising the organisation and increasing its grassroots presence.
