Bhubaneswar, Sept. 21 (UDN): The mortal remains of seven Odia devotees who lost their lives in a tragic accident in Madhya Pradesh are being transported to Odisha and are expected to arrive in Bhubaneswar today.
The bodies are being brought from Nalkheda in Agar Malwa district in specially arranged ambulances, as authorities coordinate the final journey of the victims to their hometown.
Odisha and Centre Announce Financial Assistance
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced an ex-gratia of ₹5 lakh for the family of each deceased victim. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also sanctioned ₹2 lakh each from the Centre for the bereaved families.
Expressing condolences, CM Majhi said the state government would ensure financial assistance reaches the families once the identification process is completed.
All seven victims belonged to the Jayadev Vihar area of Bhubaneswar.
Car Swept Away Near Temple
The accident occurred near the Maa Baglamukhi Temple in Nalkheda, where a rain-swollen stream swept away the vehicle carrying the devotees.
According to officials, all seven occupants of the car died in the incident, including three children and the local driver.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, and further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
The incident has cast a pall of grief over Bhubaneswar, with leaders across party lines expressing condolences to the families affected by the tragedy.
