Rourkela, Sept. 21 (UDN): The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela joined the nationwide Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign by organising a cleanliness drive at a garbage-vulnerable spot located near its campus.

The initiative was undertaken as part of the campaign’s focus on the Transformation of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and Garbage Vulnerable Points, with the objective of turning identified waste-prone areas into cleaner and healthier spaces.
Around 40 students, faculty members and staff of NIT Rourkela participated in the drive. The team cleaned the identified dumping site and removed a substantial quantity of accumulated waste from the area.
The collected garbage was subsequently transported to an authorised disposal site with the assistance of a tractor, ensuring proper handling of the waste removed during the campaign.
The institute said the initiative reflects its commitment to environmental responsibility and community participation beyond the campus. Such activities also seek to encourage citizens to take collective responsibility for maintaining clean and hygienic surroundings.
The Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign is being observed from September 17 to October 2 to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. The nationwide initiative focuses on promoting cleanliness, voluntary participation and collective efforts towards a cleaner and more developed India.
Through its participation, NIT Rourkela has sought to reinforce the message that maintaining clean public spaces requires sustained involvement from both institutions and the wider community.
