Puri, Sept. 22 (UDN): The Puri district administration has stepped up safety measures along the coast as heavy rainfall and turbulent sea conditions are forecast, with red flags hoisted at beaches and tourists barred from entering the water.
The restriction has been imposed as the sea is expected to remain rough with high tides, prompting authorities to intensify surveillance along the popular beach stretches.
Lifeguards Put On Alert
Lifeguards have been deployed across different sectors of the beach and instructed to prevent tourists from entering the sea for bathing.
The Collector has directed lifeguards to strictly enforce the restriction, with the administration focusing on preventing any drowning incidents during the period of hazardous sea conditions.
A Fire Services official said special emphasis is being placed on ensuring zero drowning incidents.
Fishermen Asked To Secure Equipment
Meanwhile, the district administration has cancelled the leave of all officers and employees in view of the weather situation.
Fishermen who had ventured into the sea have returned to the coast. Fisheries Department officials have advised them to keep their boats, fishing nets and other equipment, including machines, in safe locations.
Authorities have urged tourists and coastal residents to follow safety instructions and avoid venturing into the sea until conditions improve.
