Jaleswar, Sept. 22 (UDN): A family outing turned tragic at Mandarmani in West Bengal after strong sea currents swept away a 10-year-old boy and his uncle and aunt while they were bathing near the Mohana area on Monday.
The child was rescued by lifeguards and rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead. His uncle and aunt remain missing and a search operation is underway.
Couple Swept Into Deep Water
The missing couple have been identified as Suman Seal and his wife Brishti Seal, residents of Shantipur in Nadia district.
The couple had travelled with their 10-year-old nephew to Digha for a visit. They later went to Mandarmani on Monday afternoon, where the three entered the sea for a bath.
While they were in the water, strong currents reportedly pulled all three towards deeper waters.
Search Operation Underway
Lifeguards stationed along the beach managed to bring the boy back to shore and rushed him to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he was declared dead.
The couple, however, could not be located after being swept into the deeper waters.
A search operation is currently underway in the area to trace Suman and Brishti as rescue personnel continue efforts amid the challenging sea conditions.
