Puri, Sept 23 [UDN}:An extensive cleanliness drive was organised at the Puri Blue Flag Beach on the occasion of International Coastal Cleanup Day, with participants joining hands to promote a cleaner and healthier coastal environment.
Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida participated in the cleanliness programme and highlighted the importance of collective public participation in keeping the state’s coastline clean and protecting the marine and coastal ecosystem.
Speaking on the occasion, she stressed that maintaining the cleanliness of coastal areas is not the responsibility of any single individual or organisation. Active participation from citizens, local communities, visitors, voluntary organisations and various government agencies is essential to ensure that beaches remain clean and environmentally sustainable.
The programme also sought to create greater public awareness about responsible waste disposal and the need to prevent plastic and other waste from reaching the sea. Participants joined together in a cleanliness campaign at the popular Puri Blue Flag Beach, reinforcing the message of environmental responsibility.
As part of the observance, participants also took a pledge for “Clean Coast, Healthy Environment”, committing themselves to contribute towards maintaining clean beaches and protecting the coastal environment.
The initiative underscored the importance of collective action and community participation in safeguarding Odisha’s coastline while promoting sustainable and environmentally responsible tourism in coastal destinations such as Puri.
