Bhubaneswar, Sept 24 [UDN}:Odisha’s traditional rice varieties and millet-based products are set to receive a new identity in national and international markets, alongside efforts to strengthen farmers’ livelihoods. Modern rice and millet processing plants will help improve the quality of indigenous paddy varieties and millets while enabling the production of a range of value-added products.
Products such as millet flakes, rice flakes, cookies and bakery items will be marketed and made available to consumers across India and abroad through Subhadra Shakti Bazaars.
The initiative is expected to create better market opportunities for farmers and contribute to higher agricultural incomes by promoting value addition and modern processing. By connecting Odisha’s traditional crops with organized marketing and wider consumer markets, the initiative also aims to give the state’s indigenous rice varieties and millets a stronger presence in both domestic and international markets.
