Puri, Sept. 24 (UDN): Strong winds and intermittent rain triggered by the prevailing weather system have battered areas around Chilika in Odisha, with tidal water entering village roads and damaging fishing boats.
The situation has particularly affected Arakhakuda and Sanapatana, where tidal water has reportedly inundated roads in several pockets. Water has risen to knee level in parts of the villages, while strong waves continue to hit the shoreline and nearby roads.
Fishing Boats Damaged
The rough conditions have also caused damage to fishing boats kept along the Chilika shore.
According to reports, six fishing boats belonging to fishermen from Mangal Sahi and Laxmi Narayan Sahi in Arakhakuda were affected by the strong winds and waves.
Two boats reportedly sank after being hit by the waves, while four others sustained damage.
The deteriorating weather conditions have added to concerns among fishing communities in and around the lagoon, with strong winds and rough water making movement difficult.
Coastal Fishing Activity Affected
The impact of the adverse weather has also been reported along Odisha’s coast. Thirty-six fishing boats from Andhra Pradesh, carrying 319 fishermen, have taken shelter at Paradip Port as rough sea conditions made it unsafe for them to continue their journey.
Of the 36 boats, 28 initially reached Paradip, while eight more subsequently arrived at the port seeking shelter.
Authorities have advised fishing communities to remain cautious and avoid venturing into unsafe waters as strong winds, heavy rain and rough sea conditions continue to prevail in parts of Odisha.
The situation is being closely monitored as the deep depression over the region continues to influence weather conditions across the state.
