Bhubaneswar, Sept. 25 (UDN): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for eight districts of Odisha, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and gusty winds at isolated places till Saturday morning.
The warning is valid until 8:30 am on September 26, with the weather office also predicting heavy rain in several other parts of the state under a yellow warning.
Eight Districts Under Orange Warning
The districts placed under the orange alert are Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada and Nabarangpur.
The IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in these districts during the warning period.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds of 50-60 kmph are also likely at isolated locations.
15 Districts Under Yellow Alert
A yellow warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.
Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in these districts, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph also expected.
Rain Forecast Continues Into Sunday
For Day 2, from 8:30 am on September 26 to 8:30 am on September 27, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Bargarh.
These districts may receive heavy rainfall at one or two places, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph.
Authorities Urge Vigilance
With heavy rainfall forecast across several districts, residents in vulnerable and low-lying areas are likely to remain at risk of waterlogging and weather-related disruptions.
People have been advised to stay alert during thunderstorms and avoid exposed locations when lightning and strong winds occur.
