Bhubaneswar: Sept 26 [UDN}:Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday launched the state’s cooperative membership campaign ‘Sambandha’, urging farmers to join Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) and Large Area Multi-Purpose Cooperative Societies (LAMPCS) to access cooperative services and benefits.
The Chief Minister also launched the Sugarcane Cultivation Promotion Scheme, aimed at encouraging sugarcane cultivation in the state. As part of the initiative, the government announced an input subsidy of ₹15,000 for sugarcane farmers of Badamba and Asika.
During the programme, the Chief Minister announced several measures to strengthen cooperative infrastructure and improve services for farmers and rural communities. These include 185 transformed mandis and 50 Custom Hiring Centres.
The government also announced the establishment of 250 Jan Seva Kendras and 60 new Consumer Stores to expand access to essential services and consumer facilities.
As part of the digital transformation of the cooperative sector, the Chief Minister launched online services in 300 PACS, aimed at making cooperative services more accessible and efficient for members.
The programme also saw the distribution of dividends to more than eight lakh farmers, marking another major initiative aimed at strengthening the participation of farmers in the cooperative system.
The ‘Sambandha’ campaign seeks to expand cooperative membership and strengthen the connection between farmers and cooperative institutions, while the new initiatives focus on improving agricultural support, mechanisation, market infrastructure and digital services.
