MalkangiriSept 29 [UDN}:: A district executive committee meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was held at the party’s district office in Malkangiri to review organisational activities, discuss government welfare and development programmes, and assign responsibilities to party workers for the upcoming Seva Sankalp programme.
The meeting was organised under the leadership of BJP Malkangiri district president Ashok Kumar Parida, with state BJP vice-president Ramesh Sahu attending as the chief guest. At the beginning of the meeting, the dignitaries paid tribute to BJP founder Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya by lighting lamps before their portraits, formally inaugurating the proceedings.
District president Ashok Kumar Parida delivered the welcome address and initiated the meeting. During his address, Malkangiri MLA Narsingh Madkami spoke about the policies and development initiatives of the BJP-led government at the Centre since 2014. He highlighted the Narendra Modi government’s focus on sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, transportation and food security.
Madkami also spoke about the government’s efforts to address Left-Wing Extremism and claimed that the reduction of Naxal influence had helped connect rural and remote areas with the broader development process.
The meeting also discussed the BJP government’s tenure in Odisha and the development initiatives being undertaken under what party leaders described as the “double-engine government” at the Centre and in the state. The speakers referred to measures concerning farmers, including higher paddy prices, the Subhadra Yojana aimed at supporting women’s economic empowerment, road infrastructure development, land acquisition for railway projects and the Bikashita Gaon, Bikashita Odisha initiative for comprehensive rural development.
The meeting also discussed the MLA Adarsha Gaon initiative and other government programmes intended to promote development in rural and tribal areas.
During his address, MLA Madkami alleged that the previous 24-year BJD government had renamed several Central government schemes and presented them under its own identity, thereby misleading people. This was presented as a political allegation by the BJP leaders at the meeting.
Special Development Council chairman Ganga Sodi also addressed the gathering. He expressed concern over what he described as the policies of the state Opposition and the Congress at the national level and criticised them during his address.
A major focus of the meeting was the upcoming Seva Sankalp programme. Party members were assigned specific responsibilities for ensuring wider outreach and participation in the programme. The party workers were also urged to cooperate with government-level programmes scheduled to be conducted across different parts of Malkangiri district under the initiative.
Several senior BJP leaders and organisational functionaries attended the meeting, including Malkangiri MLA and District Planning Board chairman Narsingh Madkami, Special Council vice-chairperson Sabitri Padiami, former Zilla Parishad chairman Dasharath Padiami, all mandal presidents and secretaries, Shakti Kendra pramukhs and district office-bearers.
Among others present were general secretaries Manik Lal Chakraborty and Nabaghana Lokei, treasurer Sanjay Sarkar, MLA representatives Nihar Ray and Devi Madi, Sabita Mishra, Beni Kartul, media in-charge B. Srinivas Patra, and social media in-charge Deepak Saha.
According to the organisers, more than 500 BJP workers and office-bearers participated in the district-level meeting. The gathering concluded with emphasis on strengthening organisational activities and ensuring effective implementation and public outreach of the upcoming Seva Sankalp programme across Malkangiri district.
