Gopalpur, Sept 29 [UDN}:The International Coastal Cleanup Day 2026 was observed at Gopalpur Beach by the Brahmapur Zonal Office of the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB).
As part of the initiative, a large-scale beach-cleaning drive was conducted, along with an awareness campaign highlighting the need to keep the sea and coastline free from plastic waste and protect the marine ecosystem.
The programme was attended by the Minister of Commerce, Transport and Mines, the District Collector, administrative officials, volunteers and students. The participants stressed the importance of public participation and collective responsibility in maintaining clean and environmentally sustainable coastal areas.
A ‘Plastic-Free Food Festival’ was also organised as part of the programme to promote eco-friendly practices and discourage the use of single-use plastics. The initiative aimed to strengthen awareness among citizens about responsible waste management and the long-term protection of marine and coastal environments.
