Baipariguda: Oct 3 [UDN}:Odia feature film Maliput Melodies, based on the landscapes, forests, village life and everyday struggles of Koraput and southern Odisha, has emerged as a talking point after earning appreciation at various film platforms in India and abroad. The film is scheduled to hit theatres across Odisha on September 18.
Along with the film’s story, considerable excitement has been generated in Baipariguda over the performance of Sana Khemundu, a young man from a remote area of Baipariguda block who has secured a key role in the movie.
The film presents the realities of rural life, including family relationships, friendship, hopes, disappointments, traditions and the struggles of ordinary people. To give the story a more authentic and realistic feel, local people from the region were also included in the cast.
Sana Khemundu, who has continued his education despite financial and other hardships, has been given the role of the younger son of a family. Since several aspects of the character’s life resemble Sana’s own experiences, his performance has reportedly acquired a natural and realistic quality.
Teacher Nishan Pattnaik, who recognised Sana’s talent and his personal struggle, helped him get the opportunity to act in the film. Through the character, the movie brings the dreams and struggles of an ordinary student from a remote area to the big screen.
Sana is currently pursuing Plus Three studies at Koraput Government College. Coming from a remote village and getting the opportunity to play a major role in a film that has received appreciation on national and international platforms has become a significant achievement for him. Local residents have expressed pride in Sana’s success, saying that he has brought recognition to both Baipariguda block and Koraput district.
Maliput Melodies was selected as the only Odia feature film in the Indian Panorama section of the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Goa, and has subsequently been screened at various film festivals in India and abroad. The film also received a Bronze Award for Best Film at an international film exhibition/festival in Los Angeles.
The film’s journey—from the rural landscapes of Koraput to national and international film platforms—has generated considerable enthusiasm among local residents. The participation and performance of a young talent like Sana from Baipariguda has added another dimension to the film’s journey.
Koraput MLA Raghuram Machha and local Zilla Parishad member Rajeshwar Mahuria congratulated Sana on his achievement and said his success is a matter of pride for Baipariguda and the wider Koraput region.
