Baby Girl Born on Bhubaneswar Railway Platform as RPF, Meri Saheli Team Rush to Help

Bhubaneswar, Oct. 4 (UDN): A routine train journey turned into an unexpected and emotional moment at Bhubaneswar Railway Station on Saturday when a woman passenger gave birth to a baby girl on Platform No. 4 with assistance from Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and the all-women ‘Meri Saheli’ team.

The woman was travelling aboard the Bangiriposi-Puri Express when she reportedly developed severe labour pain during the journey.

As the train reached Bhubaneswar station, railway personnel were alerted and immediately moved in to assist the woman.

Quick Response on the Platform

The RPF personnel and members of the Meri Saheli team acted swiftly after learning that the woman was in labour.

To protect her privacy and dignity, the women personnel created a temporary enclosure on the platform using cloth sheets while arrangements were made to provide immediate assistance.

The woman subsequently delivered a baby girl on the platform before further medical assistance could reach the spot.

Mother and Newborn Safe

Railway officials said both the mother and the newborn were safe following the delivery. They were subsequently shifted for further medical attention.

The prompt response by the RPF and Meri Saheli personnel drew appreciation from passengers and railway authorities, who commended the team for handling the emergency with sensitivity and presence of mind.

The incident also highlighted the importance of the Meri Saheli initiative, under which women railway personnel assist and safeguard women passengers, particularly during emergencies and while travelling alone.

For those present at Bhubaneswar station, the unexpected arrival of a newborn amid the rush of a busy railway platform turned into a memorable moment of compassion, teamwork and quick action.
