Bhubaneswar, Oct 7 (UDN): Private bus services across Odisha are expected to operate normally on Thursday despite the 12-hour bandh called by the Congress-led INDIA bloc, the Odisha Private Bus Owners’ Association said on Wednesday.

Association president Priyabrata Tripathy said the body had not taken any decision to suspend services in support of the shutdown.
No Decision to Suspend Bus Services
Tripathy said the association had neither been approached by the bandh organisers nor received any request from them seeking support for suspending private bus operations.
“Nobody has approached the bus owners or contacted the association seeking our support for the shutdown of private bus services,” he said.
Accordingly, private buses will continue to operate as usual on Thursday.
However, Tripathy added that the association could review its position if there was any fresh decision or development regarding the bandh.
INDIA Bloc Lists Several Demands
The Congress-led INDIA bloc has called the statewide bandh over a range of political and policy issues.
One of its key demands is the immediate withdrawal of the MMDR Amendment Act, 2026.
The opposition alliance has also demanded the resignation of Odisha School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond, alleging errors and discrepancies in school textbooks.
Another major issue raised by the alliance concerns the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The INDIA bloc has sought the resignation and arrest of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging irregularities in the electoral roll revision exercise.
With the private bus association maintaining its decision to keep services running, commuters are expected to have access to regular bus transportation during the bandh, subject to any developments on Thursday.
