Raipur/Bijapur, Oct 13 (UDN): In a significant development in the fight against Left-Wing Extremism, six Maoist cadres linked to Odisha and the West Bastar Division have surrendered before the Bijapur Police in Chhattisgarh. The group was carrying a combined reward of ₹35 lakh, according to the report.

Six Odisha-Linked Maoist Cadres Surrender in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur, Rewards Total INR 35 Lakh

The surrender comes amid sustained anti-Naxal operations and efforts by the Chhattisgarh government to encourage Maoist cadres to abandon violence and return to mainstream society through rehabilitation and livelihood support.

Security Operations and Rehabilitation Efforts Cited

According to the report, the cadres decided to surrender following continued security operations, outreach initiatives and rehabilitation programmes in Bijapur district.

They reportedly cited disillusionment with the Maoist organisation’s ideology, organisational weakening, the growing presence of security forces and development activities in tribal areas among the reasons for leaving the movement.

The surrender was facilitated through coordination among the Bijapur Police, the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), including personnel of the CRPF’s 170th Battalion.

Cadres Linked to Odisha and West Bastar

The report identifies the surrendered individuals as members of different Maoist organisational units, including party political cadre members and party members. Several were reportedly associated with Odisha-based Maoist formations, while others had links to the West Bastar Division.

The names and details provided in the report include Rani Sodhi alias Sandhya, Pando Podium alias Sasmita, Sukku Kudiyam alias Santosh, Ganesh Uika, Kosa Madvi alias Satish, Deve Madkam alias Janni and Lalu Tati.

Note: The source report contains an inconsistency: it states that six cadres surrendered but lists seven individuals. The individual reward amounts also require verification before the names and total reward can be definitively reconciled.

Rehabilitation Support to Help Reintegration

Under the Chhattisgarh government’s Naxal Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy, the surrendered cadres are expected to receive assistance aimed at helping them rebuild their lives.

The support includes financial assistance, skill development, housing, education, self-employment opportunities and employment-related assistance, subject to the applicable policy provisions.

The rehabilitation framework seeks to help former Maoist cadres establish sustainable livelihoods and reintegrate into society.

Combined Security and Rehabilitation Strategy

The surrender highlights the role of coordinated security operations alongside rehabilitation initiatives in efforts to counter Left-Wing Extremism in the Bastar region.

Authorities have increasingly emphasised encouraging Maoist cadres to give up violence and access opportunities for a stable life outside the organisation.

The latest development is expected to strengthen ongoing efforts to bring former cadres back into the social mainstream, although the reported number of individuals and reward details require official confirmation.
