Cyclone Arnab: Schools, Colleges Shut in Ganjam and Gajapati Till October 31

Bhubaneswar, Oct 29: Educational institutions in Odisha’s Ganjam and Gajapati districts will remain closed until October 31 as persistent heavy rainfall and flooding triggered by Cyclone Arnab continue to disrupt normal life.

The respective district administrations have ordered the closures as a precautionary measure amid rising river levels, waterlogging and inundation in low-lying areas.

Ganjam Orders Closure of Educational Institutions

According to an official order issued by the Office of the Collector and District Magistrate, Ganjam, all Anganwadi centres, schools, degree colleges, technical institutions and university departments across the district will remain closed through October 31.

The directive, issued from Chhatrapur, continues earlier orders numbered 3178 and 3181, dated October 26, 2026. Heads of all institutions have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with the order, which took effect immediately.

Gajapati Schools Also to Remain Closed

The Gajapati district administration has separately announced the closure of all schools in the district until October 31 in view of the prevailing weather conditions.

The decision aims to safeguard students and school staff as continuous rainfall creates difficulties with transportation and raises concerns over the safety of people in vulnerable areas.

Flood Situation Prompts Precautionary Measures

Ganjam and Gajapati have experienced incessant rainfall over the past several days following Cyclone Arnab. Several rivers are reportedly flowing at elevated levels, while low-lying areas have been inundated.

The continuing adverse weather has prompted district authorities to take precautionary steps to minimise risks and protect residents.

Parents, students and educational institutions are advised to follow official announcements from their respective district administrations for updates on reopening schedules and any further instructions.
