Koraput: Nov 5 (UDN): With the guidance of the Koraput District Administration, the Department of Horticulture has distributed pineapple saplings among farmers in six villages under Kotia Gram Panchayat of Pottangi Block as part of a special fruit-based horticulture development scheme.
The distribution programme covered farmers from Ganjeipadar, Kurudipadar, Taupदर, Gumelpadar, Salempadar and Talakanti villages. The initiative has been undertaken under the Special Horticulture Fruit-Based Scheme with the objective of expanding fruit cultivation and encouraging farmers to adopt horticultural activities as an additional source of livelihood.
Through this initiative, the district administration and the Horticulture Department aim to promote pineapple cultivation in the Kotia region by providing farmers with quality planting materials and encouraging the utilisation of available agricultural land for fruit-based farming.
The programme is expected to create opportunities for farmers to diversify their agricultural activities, increase fruit production and gradually improve their household income. Pineapple cultivation is also expected to contribute to the development of horticulture-based livelihoods in the region.
The initiative reflects the district administration’s efforts to strengthen the agricultural economy of remote villages by promoting fruit cultivation, supporting farmers and encouraging sustainable income-generating agricultural activities.
