New Delhi, January 2: In the first Cabinet meeting of the year, the government has approved several important measures aimed at benefiting farmers. One of the major decisions involves a new financial package for companies involved in the production of Directly-Pressed (DPI) products. This initiative will reduce the financial burden on farmers, allowing them to access higher subsidies for DPI products. In addition, the government will extend economic assistance to DPI manufacturers, supplementing existing subsidies.
The Cabinet also endorsed a proposal to make the crop insurance scheme more attractive for farmers. The changes will simplify the process and update regulations to ensure that farmers can more easily and affordably benefit from insurance coverage. These reforms are designed to make crop insurance more accessible, with the goal of providing greater support for farmers during challenging times.
These decisions are a step toward enhancing agricultural productivity, offering better financial support to farmers, and ensuring that key agricultural products are more readily available. The DPI subsidy package will remain in effect until December 31, 2025.
