38th National Games Kicks Off in Dehradun with Over 10,000 Athletes

29th January 2025: The 38th National Games were officially inaugurated in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, with a grand ceremony on Tuesday evening. Over 10,000 athletes from across India will compete in 32 sports.

The event highlighted Uttarakhand’s rich culture and natural beauty, with performances and vibrant displays symbolizing the state’s heritage. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who attended the ceremony, expressed India’s ambition to host the 2036 Olympics.

The Games will run until February 14, featuring new events like Yoga and Mallakhamb, alongside traditional and popular sports. Odisha is sending a large contingent with over 300 athletes participating in 26 different sports. The National Games also emphasize green and sustainable practices.
