7th February 2025: Bhubaneswar is introducing a new road construction technology, Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA), across key intersections in the city. The first phase of this initiative has begun at the Capital Hospital Square, with plans to extend the technology to ten major intersections in the coming months.
SMA technology involves using a mix of coarse aggregates and asphalt, creating a stronger and more durable road surface. This method reduces the frequency of road repairs, minimizes the formation of potholes, and improves road safety by providing a smoother driving experience. It is expected to lead to fewer accidents and lower long-term maintenance costs.
The project will cost approximately 8 crore rupees, reflecting the city’s investment in improving infrastructure and enhancing road quality for residents and commuters.
