28th February 2025: Uttam Mohanty, a legendary figure in Odia cinema, has passed away at the age of 67 after being hospitalized for treatment in Gurgaon. Known for his remarkable performances in over 130 films, including Odia, Bengali, and Hindi, Mohanty earned widespread acclaim throughout his career. His roles in iconic films such as Abhiman (1977), Kabi Samrat (1978), Shankha Muhuri (1978), and Danda Balunga (1984) left an indelible mark on the industry.

Over the years, Mohanty was honored with numerous awards, including three consecutive Best Actor awards from the Odisha State Government in 1982, 1983, and 1984. He also received the prestigious Jayadev Award in 1999 for his contributions to Odia cinema.

In addition to his successful acting career, Mohanty was married to renowned actress Aparajita Mohanty, and their son, Babusan Mohanty, has become a leading actor in the Odia film industry. His death has left a significant void in the film community, with tributes pouring in from all corners.
