Chinese Stocks End Mixed as Shanghai Gains, Growth Stocks Face Pressure

Beijing, Aug 25: Chinese stock markets ended mixed on Tuesday as investors remained cautious amid uneven sector performance and moderate trading activity.

The Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.19 per cent to close at 3,889.44 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index fell 0.35 per cent to 13,745.87 points. The ChiNext Index, which tracks growth-focused companies, declined 1 per cent to 3,397.52 points.

Trading activity also eased, with combined turnover on the Shanghai and Shenzhen exchanges at around 1.83 trillion yuan ($269.7 billion), compared with 2.01 trillion yuan in the previous session.

Investors showed interest in small home-appliance, agriculture and innovative medicine stocks, while precious metals, lithium mining and banking shares were among the weaker sectors.

The STAR Composite Index, which tracks technology companies listed on China’s science and technology board, ended almost unchanged at 1,896.08 points.

The mixed market performance reflects cautious investor sentiment, with traders weighing economic conditions, consumer demand and expectations of further policy support.

Overall, the session showed selective buying rather than a broad market rally, as investors continued to assess the outlook for China’s economy and corporate earnings.
