Bhubaneswar, Aug 26: Universities and higher education institutions across Odisha will observe Sanskrit Week from August 25 to 31, following a direction from the Higher Education Department to promote awareness of the language and its cultural and academic significance.
The department has asked universities and government and aided colleges to organise meaningful activities involving students, faculty members and the wider academic community.
Institutions may conduct essay writing, debates, quizzes, recitation, elocution and translation competitions. They have also been encouraged to display Sanskrit verses, quotations and messages across campuses to create greater visibility for the language.
Exhibitions featuring Sanskrit books, manuscripts, inscriptions and literary works may also be organised to highlight the language’s contribution to Indian literature, philosophy, science and culture.
Colleges and universities can additionally hold lectures, seminars, workshops, cultural programmes, awareness rallies and educational screenings during the week, depending on their available resources.
The department has advised institutions to publicise the programmes through notice boards, websites and other communication channels and maintain records of the activities conducted.
The initiative is aimed at giving students greater exposure to Sanskrit while encouraging educational institutions to preserve and promote the language as part of India’s rich linguistic and cultural heritage.
