Ancient Jhadeswari Peetha Continues to Inspire Devotees’ Belief

Dhusuri, Jan, 13:   The temple of Maa Jhadeswari, situated in Gobindapur village under Dhamnagar block, is one of the most famous Shakti shrines in the region. According to local legend, the idol of the Goddess appeared from within a bush. Hence, the Goddess came to be known as “Jhadeswari.”

Initially, the Goddess was worshipped in a small structure made of wood and bamboo. About 80 years ago, a proper temple was established, and since then Maa Jhadeswari has been worshipped there regularly.

This shrine is not only a centre of religious faith but is also deeply connected with the experiences and beliefs of the local people. According to popular belief, if parents of children who are unable to speak (late speech development) make a vow at this shrine, the children soon begin to speak. Many families have shared such miraculous experiences.

Every year, a fair is organised during Jagar (Shivaratri) in the temple परिसर. In the afternoon, “Kalishee” (divine possession) is believed to come upon the Goddess’s attendant. To ensure systematic worship and rituals, a management committee has been formed.

With the support of local residents, people from the area living outside, and generous donors, the temple has been steadily developing. The government has provided drinking water and electricity facilities. If the government and administration give further attention, significant development of this spiritual centre is possible, which could also attract tourists.
