“Awareness Is the Key to Prevent Cyber Fraud,” Experts Emphasize at GIET Event

Gunupur, 31st Oct 2025: A Cyber Security Awareness Campaign was organized on Thursday at the auditorium of GIET University, Gunupur, in Rayagada district, through the joint initiative of the district administration and police department.

District Collector Ashutosh Kulkarni attended the program as the chief guest. He inaugurated various innovative cyber security projects prepared by students and interacted with them on the topic. He said that awareness about cyber safety will be extended to rural areas as well, and emphasized that only through awareness can people protect themselves from cyber fraud.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Swati S. Kumar, who attended as the guest of honor, explained how to safeguard oneself from OTP scams, website frauds, fake messages, and social media hacking.

Similarly, Gunupur Sub-Collector Duhal Abhishek Dileep, who was also present as a guest, stated that such awareness programs not only help individuals stay alert but also enable them to protect others from cyber fraud.

Dr. Chandradhwaj Panda, Vice-President of GIET University, expressed his gratitude to the district and police administrations for organizing such an important event on the university campus.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. A.V.N.L. Sharma and Additional Superintendent of Police Amulya Dhar were also seated on the dais. Dr. K. Muralimohan Gopal, Deputy Dean of the Computer Science Department, delivered the welcome address, while Professor S.N. Das offered the vote of thanks.

Among others present were Gunupur IIC Babuli Nayak, IIC Kamalakant Basant Kumar Kanhar, University Director General Dr. Jagadish Panda, Registrar Dr. N.V.J. Rao, faculty members, and students.

Students of GIET University who had participated in national-level hackathons and won awards for their innovative cyber security awareness projects were also honored at the event.

On this occasion, more than 50 students were presented with certificates of appreciation and mementos by the district administration.

The program was attended by the District Collector, SP, and university authorities.
