Awareness Programme on Right to Information Act Organized in Malkangir

Malkangiri March, 13: A district-level workshop on the Right to Information Act, 2005 (RTI), 2026, was conducted at the Zilla Parishad Conference Hall under the guidance of the Information and Public Relations Department of the Government of Odisha. The workshop was organized by the District Information and Public Relations Office.

The one-day workshop was held under the chairmanship of Sub-Collector Duryodhan Bhoi, with Ashok Pattnaik attending as the resource person. District Information and Public Relations Officer Pramika Majhi coordinated the entire program.

In his address, Sub-Collector Shri Bhoi stated that the RTI Act enhances transparency and accountability in government functioning and enables citizens to directly access information about government schemes. He emphasized that the Act helps reduce the gap between the administration and the public. Stressing the importance of proactive disclosure under Section 4 of the Act, he mentioned that it would not only build public trust but also reduce the number of applications. He advised officials to treat RTI not as a burden but as an integral part of service delivery.
Public Information Officers (PIOs), Assistant Public Information Officers (APIOs), Deputy Collectors, and officials from various departments participated in the workshop.

During the session, Shri Pattnaik elaborated on the procedures for receiving and processing RTI applications, maintaining mandatory registers related to RTI in offices, and other relevant operational aspects. Officials also discussed various issues and challenges during the session.

On this occasion, cash prizes were awarded to winners of a speech competition organized on the topic of the RTI Act. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by the District Information and Public Relations Officer. Staff members Harekrushna Kirjania and Ranjan Mohanty of the District Information and Public Relations Department assisted in organizing the event.
