The situation has triggered concern among residents as the river shows no immediate signs of receding. The Jalaka River has also crossed the warning level, adding to the flood threat in the district.

Floodwater Enters Balasore Town

Floodwater from the Budhabalanga has entered parts of Balasore town, affecting several wards. In Ward No. 12, water has reportedly reached nearly two feet in some areas, leaving residents struggling to move through inundated streets.

Several low-lying pockets have been waterlogged, while residents in affected areas are facing difficulties accessing food, drinking water and other essential supplies.

Villages in Sadar, Remuna Affected

The flooding has also affected villages in Sadar and Remuna blocks, disrupting road communication and normal daily activities.

Residents said water levels have continued to rise since Monday, forcing many families to remain indoors. In some areas, people are reportedly relying on dry food as cooking has become difficult because of the surrounding floodwater.

“We have been facing severe difficulties as water has entered our locality. Access to food and safe drinking water has become a major concern,” a resident said.

Another resident said the rising water has made it difficult for people to reach nearby shops and access essential commodities.

Normal Life Disrupted

The continued rise in river levels has affected transportation and everyday life across several parts of Balasore. Roads in low-lying areas remain submerged, while residents are keeping a close watch on the situation amid continuing rainfall.

With both the Budhabalanga and Jalaka rivers maintaining elevated water levels, concerns remain over further inundation if rainfall continues.

Residents in affected areas have appealed for prompt relief, drinking water, food supplies and necessary assistance, particularly for families stranded in waterlogged locations.

Authorities are closely monitoring the river situation as Balasore braces for further challenges from the ongoing rainfall and flooding.
