Cuttack, Aug 31: The iconic Barabati Stadium is set to come alive once again as the Odisha T20 League CM Trophy returns for its second edition, with six teams competing across 17 matches from September 20 to 29.
The tournament is expected to give Odisha’s emerging cricketers a valuable opportunity to perform on a major stage, gain competitive experience and catch the attention of scouts and franchise teams.
The six franchises in the competition are Cuttack Panthers, Bhubaneswar Tigers, Rourkela Steelers, Keonjhar Miners, Puri Titans and Sambalpur Warriors. The player draft is scheduled for September 6, ahead of the tournament.
The CM Trophy reflects the state’s growing focus on developing cricket and providing local talent with stronger pathways into professional cricket. Matches under lights at Barabati Stadium will give players the chance to perform in a high-pressure competitive environment alongside experienced cricketers.
Cuttack Panthers, winners of the previous edition, will return to defend their title, while the other five teams will look to challenge the champions and claim the trophy.
Odisha Cricket Association President Pankaj Lochan Mohanty said the league is designed to create a stronger platform for young players to develop their skills and gain the exposure required to progress in their careers.
The tournament’s wider broadcast reach is expected to further increase the visibility of Odisha’s players. Strong performances could help emerging cricketers attract interest from domestic teams, talent scouts and franchise-based competitions such as the IPL.
The league organisers are hopeful that the tournament can become a stepping stone for promising players looking to move into higher levels of domestic and franchise cricket.
The competition will conclude on September 29 with an exhibition women’s match, adding a special feature to the final day.
