Biju Patnaik Remembered as His Legacy Stands the Test of Time

Bhubaneswar,April 09:  Just as gold does not lose its purity when put into fire but instead shines brighter, the same has happened in the case of Biju Patnaik. Even three decades after his demise, his personality has become more radiant following objectionable and derogatory remarks made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey.
Biju Patnaik, a strong nationalist, freedom fighter, and a powerful voice of Odia identity, is regarded as a legendary figure of Odisha. The controversial remarks sparked intense protests across Odisha, cutting across party lines. A condemnation motion was also brought in the विधानसभा (Legislative Assembly). Almost all political parties in the country, including leaders from Nishikant Dubey’s own party, rejected such comments about Biju Patnaik. Various political groups criticized Dubey both inside and outside Parliament.
Although Biju Patnaik is a jewel of Odisha, he is not limited to the state—he is considered a national hero and one of India’s bravest sons. His patriotism during the pre-independence era, including World War II, and post-independence India has been widely remembered. Facing severe criticism over his remarks, Nishikant Dubey eventually issued an apology.
“Biju Babu Was and Will Remain a Statesman”: Dubey
Dubey later acknowledged Biju Patnaik as a great leader and a symbol of national pride.
“A Symbol of Unwavering Commitment”: Modi
Meanwhile, on the occasion of Odisha Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a letter to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, praised Biju Patnaik extensively. He described him as a symbol of courage and nation-building.
Along with praising Biju Patnaik, the Prime Minister also attempted to calm the controversy that arose across Odisha and the country due to Nishikant Dubey’s remarks.
