Census House Listing Drive Starts April 16, Government Enables Self-Reporting Option via Digital Portal

Bhubaneswar :Mar, 28: The Census process is set to begin in the state. In the first phase, house listing will start from April 16. This will be conducted across all 30 districts through coordination between the Directorate of Census Operations under the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Revenue & Disaster Management Department.
The house listing and housing census will be carried out from April 16 to May 15 by trained enumerators and supervisors. Prior to this, a provision for self-enumeration has been made from April 1 to April 15 (midnight). During this period, citizens can submit their own data through the Self-Enumeration (SE) Portal.
For this first phase, 67 master trainers have been trained at the Gopabandhu Administrative Academy of the Odisha Government. These master trainers have further trained 1,552 field trainers across the state.
In the 30 districts, 100,875 enumerators and 17,282 supervisors will be engaged across 91 Notified Area Councils, 48 municipalities, 5 municipal corporations, and 2 industrial towns.
Tehsildars of each tehsil and executive officers of urban local bodies are functioning as charge officers. The Revenue & Disaster Management Department is acting as the nodal department for the entire process.
Training programs have been ongoing since the 15th of this month, and the house listing work will be conducted through field visits using mobile applications.
Renowned international sand artist Sudarshan Pattnaik has been appointed as the brand ambassador to promote awareness about the census program.
District Collectors and Municipal Commissioners are serving as Principal Census Officers, while Additional District Magistrates are functioning as District Census Officers.
Primary school teachers will be appointed as enumerators, and high school teachers will serve as supervisors. This will be India’s first digital census, and for the first time, a provision for self-enumeration has been introduced. The data submitted through self-enumeration will be verified by enumerators.
The census will also use the CMMS Portal, and digital tools will be utilized for creating house listing blocks.
