Chameli, accompanied by a large number of supporters, including women, marched in a procession to the SP office and later began a dharna near the premises. The protest drew significant attention as the sarpanch levelled serious allegations against local authorities and expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of the investigation.

Addressing the media, Chameli alleged that she and her family have been receiving threats and claimed that justice has eluded her despite repeated appeals to the administration. She demanded the immediate arrest of persons whom she described as close associates of the local MLA, alleging their involvement in the incident.

The Tikhiri sarpanch also sought the suspension of the Mahakalapada Block Development Officer (BDO) and the Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Mahakalapada police station, accusing them of dereliction of duty and bias during the investigation.

Alleging that the police probe has not been impartial, Chameli announced that she would continue her sit-in protest under the Gandhi statue near the SP office until her demands are fulfilled.

Meanwhile, police have intensified their investigation into the alleged misconduct incident that took place inside the Mahakalapada Block Office on June 11. So far, four persons have been arrested in connection with the case. The latest accused, identified as Sukanta Swain, was taken into custody by Mahakalapada police for allegedly misbehaving with the woman sarpanch inside the BDO’s chamber.

However, neither the district administration, police authorities nor the local MLA has issued any official response to the allegations levelled by the protesting sarpanch.

With the protest continuing and demands mounting, all eyes are now on the district administration and law enforcement agencies for their next course of action.
