Bhubaneswar, Dec 16: Odisha is experiencing a significant cold wave, with temperatures plummeting across the state. Shimilipal in Mayurbhanj district saw the lowest temperature of 1°C, resembling Kashmir-like conditions. Other areas like Uparabarkhmanda recorded 1°C, while Barhakamunda, Chahala, and Nabanar experienced temperatures between 3°C and 4°C.
The cold weather has left many areas blanketed with frost, particularly in the interior regions, such as Shimilipal, where this season’s first snowfall was reported. Jharasuguda and Rourkela also recorded near-freezing temperatures of 6.1°C and 5.6°C, respectively.
The intense cold is expected to last for the next few days, affecting daily life, especially for vulnerable groups in rural and tribal areas.
