Crocodile Sparks Panic in MPV‑83 Pond, Malkangiri; Forest Department Launches Rescue

Malkangiri, 5th Aug 2025: Panic gripped the residents of MPV-83 village under Kalimela block of Malkangiri district after crocodiles were reportedly spotted in the local pond. In response, the Forest Department has put up warning banners urging villagers not to enter the pond.

According to locals, three to four crocodiles have been sighted in the pond recently, creating an atmosphere of fear in the area. Villagers promptly informed officials from the MPV-79 Forest Division, who visited the spot and installed cautionary signage near the pond. The banners warn the public to stay away and clearly mention: “Beware of Crocodiles.”

This is a rare incident in the region, and the sighting has raised serious questions regarding how the reptiles ended up in the pond and how they can now be safely relocated.

Locals remain terrified, especially those living nearby, as the threat of crocodile attacks looms. Meanwhile, forest officials have also deployed a Rapid Response Team to monitor the situation and plan possible rescue or removal of the crocodiles.

Residents have welcomed the Forest Department’s swift response but are anxiously waiting for a permanent solution to ensure safety.
