Demand Petition for Pension Submitted to Minister

Nabarangpur,18th Aug 2025: Hundreds of eligible elderly men and women, as well as widows from Maidulpur and Hatibeda panchayats under Papadahandi block of Nabarangpur district, are not receiving their pension. During his visit to Nabarangpur, Forest and Environment Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia was apprised of this grievance.

The complainants said that although they have repeatedly submitted applications for pension, their applications go missing from the block office. They alleged that they are only given false assurances that the pension will be released soon, but nothing has materialized. Even in the final stage of their lives, they are still deprived of this assistance. They complained that they are being forced to run repeatedly to the block and Collector’s offices, becoming exhausted in the process. By applying again and again, they are only incurring unnecessary expenses.

Furthermore, allegations were made that in Nuakot Panchayat, the PEO (Panchayat Executive Officer) has been misappropriating the pension money of deceased beneficiaries. It was confirmed that the pension money of 44 deceased persons had indeed been misappropriated. According to the rules, whenever a pension beneficiary passes away, eligible persons from the waiting list should be included in their place. But the complainants questioned why the vacant 44 positions were not filled with eligible beneficiaries.

They pointed out that in the last stage of life, many elderly people depend on this government financial assistance, and therefore demanded that pensions be provided to them without further delay. Minister Khuntia, after receiving the complaint, directed the District Collector to take immediate action.
