Rourkela/New Delhi, March 21: Former Union Minister Dillip Ray met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, urging for key infrastructure improvements in Rourkela. Ray called for the establishment of a new railway division under East Coast Railway to improve connectivity, as the region significantly contributes to railway revenue but lacks adequate services.
He also addressed the delayed ₹30,000 crore expansion plan for the Rourkela Steel Plant, which has been stalled due to land acquisition issues. Ray emphasized the need for swift resolution to boost production and create jobs.
Additionally, Ray requested an upgrade of the Rourkela airport with extended runways, night landing facilities, and better management through the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The Prime Minister assured that these matters would be considered at the highest level.
