Odisha Minister Reviews Urban Sanitation and Waste Management

Bhubaneswar, March 21: Odisha’s Housing & Urban Development Minister, Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, chaired a meeting to discuss improving sanitation and waste management in urban areas. The session focused on the status of Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants in Municipal Corporations and surrounding clusters like Puri-Konark and Boudhgarh-Sonepur.

Mahapatra urged officials to speed up project completion to improve waste processing. He proposed creating integrated waste processing complexes in municipalities to streamline operations and reduce costs. Additionally, he called for the restoration of non-functional toilets and e-toilets in Bhubaneswar.

The Minister also addressed the issue of garbage accumulation, instructing faster processing at the Temporary Transfer Station near Sainik School and the Palasuni waste processing centre. He suggested developing a digital sanitation app linked to the SUJOG portal for better monitoring. Principal Secretary Usha Padhee recommended involving self-help groups (SHGs) in managing public toilets to improve urban sanitation efforts.
