District Planning and Monitoring Committee Conducts Its First General Meeting to Discuss Development and Implementation Strategies

Nabarangpur, June 1: The first meeting of the District Planning and Monitoring Committee, constituted under Article 275(1) of the Constitution of India, was held today at the Mission Shakti Conference Hall under the chairmanship of District Collector Dr. Maheshwar Swain.

The meeting was attended by MLA of Dabugaon Manohar Randhari, MP representative Banka Bihari Bisoyi, Nabarangpur MLA representative A. Suresh Shastri, Jharigaon MLA representative Gobinda Jain, Chief Development Officer of Zilla Parishad Biranchi Narayan Darwan, and other officials.

Project Administrator of the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), Rajib Kumar Sahu, delivered the welcome address and urged all departmental officers to submit effective implementation plans for the current year.

Discussions focused on taking rapid developmental measures in four tribal-dominated areas of the district in sectors such as education, livelihood, agriculture, and transportation. Special emphasis was laid on the Five-Year Perspective Plan (2026–27 to 2031–32) and the Annual Plan for 2026–27. The chairperson instructed all departmental officers to submit their respective implementation plans at the earliest.

In his address, the District Collector stressed the need for proper long-term projects aimed at improving the living standards of people residing in tribal-dominated regions. Discussions were held on infrastructure development in education, including hostels, classrooms, and residential facilities. In the livelihood sector, emphasis was placed on agriculture-based processing units. In agriculture, priority was given to minor irrigation projects such as check dams, while in connectivity, focus was laid on culverts and rural roads.
The Project Administrator of ITDA informed that a provision of ₹18 crore has been made for these initiatives during the financial year 2026–27.
The meeting also discussed preparing plans for various livelihood-generating units in the district, including jaggery processing units, milk chilling centers, garment manufacturing units, and similar projects.

During the discussion, MLA Manohar Randhari emphasized improving the quality of food in residential schools, promoting maize cultivation through check dams, and taking immediate steps to improve drinking water supply. He directed the concerned departmental officers to take swift action in these areas.
Departmental officers and ITDA staff members were also present at the meeting.
