Dramatic Portrayal of Sita Haran Captivates Audience at Lanka Podi

Dashapalla, April 7:  As per tradition, today a movable Pushpak Vimana was prepared, and a 35-foot-tall wooden effigy of Ravana was consecrated through rituals, symbolically giving it life. Offerings such as gaja mua and pana were presented before installing the effigy.
Meanwhile, in the Dandakaranya forest, Lord Rama, Lakshmana, and Sita are shown resting. At that time, Ravana’s sister Surpanakha sees Rama and Lakshmana and expresses her love for them. After being rejected, she attempts to attack Sita. In response, Lakshmana cuts off her nose and ears, driving her away.
She then goes to her brother Ravana and narrates the incident, praising Sita’s beauty. Hearing this, Ravana plans to abduct Sita and sends Maricha disguised as a magical golden deer. Enchanted by the deer, Sita requests Rama to capture it. Rama follows the deer into the forest.
During this time, Maricha cries out in Rama’s voice, calling for Lakshmana. Believing Rama to be in danger, Sita urges Lakshmana to go to his aid. Taking advantage of the situation, Ravana arrives in the disguise of a sage and abducts Sita under the pretense of asking for alms.
On the way, the king of birds, Jatayu, tries to stop Ravana’s Pushpak Vimana, but Ravana cuts off his wings. Ravana then takes Sita to Lanka and leaves her under the care of Trijata.
This is the theme presented in today’s performance.
