Expanded Facilities Planned to Enhance Visitor Experience at Debrigarh

Sambalpur, Dec, 06: The number of tourists visiting Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary is on the rise. However, due to increased demand, there is insufficient accommodation for tourists. Apart from nature stays, five homestays have been arranged in the nearby Dharokusum village. In addition to these, the state government has approved an allocation of ₹71.19 crore for providing various facilities for tourists and for ensuring the protection of wildlife. Some of this amount will be spent in the current financial year, while the remaining will be utilized in the next year, according to the Hirakud Wildlife Division sources.

Debrigarh Sanctuary has already been linked with ₹16 lakh financial support for its development. The existing 5 homestays in Dharokusum village will be expanded with 10 more homestays. Additionally, in green grassland areas outside the sanctuary, 20 modern tent accommodations will be constructed for tourists.

A key attraction will be the 300-meter-long “Canopy Walk” set to be built at the highest level of trees, providing a unique experience for visitors. The sanctuary will also feature a vintage safari jeep, cruise boats, a café on Hirakud Island, an eco-tourism centre, and booking counters, all funded by this budget.

Temporary meditation centers made of glass and wood will be established, along with a library for nature education. In addition, 80 people will be able to stay at the center at any given time. There are also plans to build 100 kilometers of protective fencing to ensure the safety of wildlife. According to Hirakud Wildlife Officer Anshuprajna Das, the construction of fences will help reduce conflicts between humans and animals.

The new infrastructure aims to minimize human-wildlife conflict and provide a better experience for both tourists and wildlife.
